on teaching
“Teaching Provides opportunities for artistic growth and transformation for both my students and myself.”
“It occurs to me now that successful teachers encourage and enlighten students through both the example of their own studio practices as well as the profound love of their subject and medium.”
Over the past thirty five years I’ve mentored individual artists and designers with the hope of passing along the gifts I’ve been blessed to receive from my own teachers and mentors. I’ve taught drawing, painting, printmaking and design to students from the elementary school to the college level. I’ve taught in college and university settings, in an inner city community center as well as in the state prison system. I ran my first art workshop for elementary school children at the San Juan Center in Hartford, CT in 1974. Currently, I teach drawing, painting and printmaking from my studio in the old school house in Stonington, Maine.
Throughout the year, I run small drawing and painting workshops outdoors.
