on teaching
“Teaching Provides opportunities for artistic growth and transformation for both my students and myself.”
“It occurs to me now that successful teachers encourage and enlighten students through both the example of their own studio practices as well as the profound love of their subject and medium.”
Over the past twenty five years I’ve mentored individual artists and designers with the hope of passing along the gifts I’ve been blessed to receive from my own teachers and mentors. I’ve taught drawing, painting, printmaking and design to students from the elementary school to the college level. I’ve taught in college and university settings, in an inner city community center as well as in the prison system. I ran my first art workshop for elementary school children at the San Juan Center in Hartford, CT in 1974. Currently, I teach college level drawing courses. My most recent drawing class was completed online during the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020.
I offer small printmaking workshops in an intimate setting at my Simian Press studio in Southampton, MA. I also offer private instruction in drawing and painting at my studio in the Paragon Arts & Industry building in Easthampton, MA. Throughout the year, I run small drawing and painting workshops outdoors.
